Coronavirus and product availability
Where can I buy Cow & Gate products if I can’t find any stock in my local area?
Due to the current high demand for formula products, some retailers are experiencing shortages of our products in their stores. Naturally, we are concerned to hear that parents are not able to purchase our products and would like to offer our support.
At the moment we have good supplies of our formula products and we are sending out regular, daily supplies to all retailers. So you should be able to find your formula products when shelves are replenished, although you may need to try more than one store or use online retailers’ local stock checking facility. We also suggest trying local pharmacies and independent stores as they have lower footfall. ). In the short term, if your powdered milk is not available, you can also consider using the liquid format if available.
Behind the scenes, we are working hard with retailers to ensure that supplies get to store as fast as we can, and where possible, we are increasing production of our milks so that we can maintain good supplies.
Due to legal restrictions, we must not send out free supplies in Ireland.
If you are not able to find your usual formula products, you can consider the following options:
- for babies 0-6 months. You can use most infant milks labelled suitable from birth from any manufacturer in powder or liquid form (excluding specialist milks unless appropriate for your baby’s circumstances). Although the usual recommendation is to stay with one brand, you can change if necessary. You should not use follow-on or growing up milks for babies under 6 months.
- for babies 6+ months. You can use most infant milks labelled suitable from birth or follow-on milks from any manufacturer in powder or liquid form (excluding specialist milks unless appropriate for your baby’s circumstances). You should not use 1+ year milks for babies under 12 months.
- for toddlers 1+ year. You can use growing up milks or alternatively you may like to consider moving your toddler onto cow’s milk as their main drink.
If you decide to change your formula products, it is completely safe for you to do so immediately. However, every baby is different, and some babies may experience settling issues when changing products due to slightly different tastes, textures and composition. This is normal and any symptoms should be minimal and temporary (such as changes in stool frequency and colour).
We do understand that this situation is causing anxiety for parents and would like to assure that we are doing everything we can to get supplies out. To help other parents, please think before you buy and only buy what you and your family need. If we all do this then we can make sure we have enough for everyone.
If you have any further questions, you can contact us via email and we’ll do our best to help. We are experiencing higher contact volumes than usual but will try and get back to you as soon as we can. All the latest information and guidance about our products is on this page.
What if my baby is using your specialist products and I can’t find supplies?
We recommend you speak to your Healthcare Professional if your baby has specific needs. We continue to have a good supply of these products and are sending out regular, daily supplies.
If I contact Cow & Gate directly, can they send me stock?
We are aware there are some messages going around on Social Media about Cow & Gate sending out formula products if parents are unable to find these in stores. This is not true.
Here in Ireland , we comply with strict Regulations and we are not allowed to send out formula products to parents for free. This is the case for any formula products sold in Ireland .
We also cannot take payments via our support team , so unfortunately our team can’t support you by selling products to you directly. We are also unable to sell product directly from our factories in Ireland.
We’re sorry to hear that anyone is having difficulties finding their usual products. We know many families rely on our products, so keeping them available is a priority.
At the moment we are sending out regular, daily supplies to all retailers. So you should be able to find your formula products when shelves are replenished, although you may need to shop around.
