Trying to predict your baby’s gender? But you’ve decided to not find out and for it to be a surprise at birth? Try the below old wives tales! Who doesn’t love a good guessing game after all!
(Disclaimer: Please remember these are just for fun and that there’s no science or medical reasoning behind them!)
“Is it a boy or girl?” is normally a question that follows when someone sees or finds out that you are pregnant. It’s one of those questions that you feel you’ve already answers millions of times and you’re only 6months pregnant…
Carrying high or carrying low
It’s widely thought that carrying high means you’re having a girl, while carrying low means it’s a boy. (by high or low we’re taking about the position of your little one in your tummy, high up under your boobs or down low in your pelvis itching to get out!)
The ring test
Tie a ring on a piece of string or a necklace and hang it over your bump. If it swings in a circular motion, you could be having a girl, but if it’s swinging side to side, it means you’re having a boy. (It’s best to get someone else to do this as it may be uncomfortable for you!)
Sweet versus salty
If you find yourself craving all things sweet, that’s a sign you’re having a girl. Cravings for salty or even protein-rich foods mean it might be a boy. (And if you’re craving everything…Well, that just means you’re pregnant.)
The garlic test
Proceed with caution: If you’re able to eat a lot of garlic but not smell like it, apparently that means you’re carrying a girl. (If you decide to do this test, give your partner a heads up)
Unfortunately, this early pregnancy symptom doesn’t tend to discriminate when it comes to gender. But if you’re suffering from excessive nausea and morning sickness, it’s said you could be having a girl.
If your complexion is bright and your hair resembles that of a Pantene commercial, you could be having a boy. But on the other hand if the much talked about pregnancy glow isn’t there, it may just mean that you’re growing a little girl. (Be flattered, your little girl is stealing her Mum’s good looks.)
Partner’s weight gain
As this old wives’ tale goes, if your partner is gaining some sympathy weight, that could be a sign that you’re carrying a girl. (Those 12am Ben & Jerry’s run is taking its toll!)
Moody or relaxed
If you’re feeling more moody (those delightful hormones again), you might be having a girl. If you’re more chilled out, legend has it you should get ready for a boy.
The eye test
Look in the mirror for about a minute. If your pupils are dilating, it means you’re having a boy. You may also need fantastic eyesight for this.
During your next ultrasound, pay attention to your baby’s heart rate. If that little ticker is beating faster than 140 beats per minute, get ready for a girl.
After all those tales have you been able to figure out the gender of your little one? Or are you left a little more confused? If you’ve opted for the surprise, stop speculating. Be patient as some of the above tales may become more relevant as your pregnancy progresses.
