Week 38

As your little one is due very soon it’s important you’re very familiar with the signs of labour.

Your little one is also starting to get rid of the white goo on their skin (called vernix) that protects them from the amniotic fluid. However, they may still have some on their skin at birth, which is normal so don’t be alarmed.

While you’re waiting for the birth, you can think of these final weeks as a dress rehearsal for life with your little one – sleepless nights, anxiety and leaky breasts. Yes, just so that you are aware, your boobs might begin to leak colostrum. Colostrum is a thin yellowish liquid that’s the precursor to breast milk. If you are leaking colostrum, just start wearing nursing pads in your bra to protect your clothes. If you don’t get leaky breasts, no need to worry; your boobs are still producing it for your baby for when the time comes.
