      Pregnancy calendar – Week 11

      Researching

Your baby is the size of a Lime

At 11 weeks pregnant your baby now measures 4cm. They’re going to grow as much in the coming week as they have done in the previous eleven! Their brain, lungs, liver and kidneys, although minute, have all formed. They can suck, swallow and even yawn! Your baby can also ‘breathe’ amniotic fluid and urinate. Now that their fingers have separated, they will soon be able to open and close their fists and grasp things in the womb. All organ systems are functioning but will keep developing and maturing in preparation for birth. They’re already busy kicking and stretching, and their movements are more fluid.

      You & your body

We all know that vitamins are important for health, but that doesn’t mean the more you get, the better – and certainly not while you’re pregnant. Too much Vitamin A can be harmful so don’t take supplements without checking with your healthcare professional first.

If you were taking a multi-vitamin supplement, you’ll need to check its suitability once you find out you’re pregnant so stop taking it until you’re sure it’s ok for you to have. The most important pregnancy vitamin supplement is folic acid so do continue taking this up to week 12.

      Did you know?

While you can’t tell your baby’s gender yet, testes are developing if it’s a boy and ovaries if it’s a girl. And although you can’t see it or feel it yet, your baby is spending most of the time swimming, kicking, stretching and tumbling around.
